Introduction
The barcode scanner for
halal product is a gadget which is able to scan and display the status of the
product. There are three types of states will be used as a result which are
‘HALAL’, ‘NOT IN THE LIST’ and ‘CANNOT BE USED’. Besides that, the scanner will
also display the product’s name. Halal is Arabic word which mean lawful and
permitted.
The
opposite of halal is haraam which mean unlawful and prohibited. Halal and
haraam are universal terms that commonly used by all aspect of life . However,
for this project, those terms will be used only in relation to food products,
meat products, cosmetics, personal care products, food ingredients and food
contact materials. In Malaysia, Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM) is
taking the responsibility to control and give certification to local and
international products regarding the products’ status.
Problem Statement
Halal
food or products are very important in Muslim culture. Islam also has highlight
that any sources of the products or food should be full of purity, clean and
halal. However, there are not good enough only by displaying the halal logo on
the cover of the products. This is because, some of the manufacturers have
taking advantage by using the illegal logo (non original) of halal to their
products in order to sell them toward customers without thinking the Muslim
people’s sensitivity, especially. Therefore, a system is designed in order to
detect the barcode of the halal logo and the code will be analyzed using visual
basic. The status of the product will be identified whether it is halal or not.
